Paige's 5th birthday

Today is Paige's 5th birthday. She is not feeling the greatest; so we are hanging out at home today waiting for the tummy ache and fever to go away. However, we had her birthday party on Sunday. Despite an almost birthday girl with an attitude; it was a good day. We had a 'Tangled' theme party. Paige managed to get a few Tangled presents--including the movie which she had been desperately hoping for. Mom & Dad got her a new bike which was test ridden around the house and works pretty well.

Happy Birthday to my peanut--thank you for a wonderful five years and we love you.

Butterfly wings

Today was a busy day with Easter and Paige's birthday party. Her birthday is on the 5th but we took advantage of everyone being at our house and used birthday cake as our desert. Gramma had a Cinderella cake made that Paige loved, and I have a candle blowing out expert at this age. It takes until they are 4 to get the hang of it apparently.

After we had some cake, except for the birthday girl who ate a few bites and then declared it present time, she opened gifts. Dad was the person of choice to sit with this year and they did a great job of tearing open presents. For the record, this is what my husband looks like without a hat!

The big box from Mom and Dad was saved for last. She'd been eyeing it and I think was pretty pleased with the result. My camera speed is a little off, as a few pictures are blurry but I caught this smile and it pretty much sums up how she felt about her present.

The butterfly wings were a hit and she immediately put them on and had to model. She tore off into the living room and came back a few seconds later with this look of disappointment. "Mom, they don't work! I can't fly!" Backstory on this, for about a month, when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said butterfly wings so she could learn how to fly. Dead serious. Thanks to Etsy.com they arrived on Friday and are super cute. Mom never thought about the not being able to fly part.

Thanks to Papa Rick we got the flying thing down enough to not be disappointed and to run with our wings. He explained it would take a little while to learn to fly and each time she jumped it'd get a little bit higher. So the jumping from the couch began and there are certain moments when you just can scold for something like that. It was just too cute.

Happy Birthday Cowboy!

My beloved Cowboy was old yesterday! The candles say 31 if you can see that through the flame! He tolerated me taking the standard birthday cake picture. We had family and friends over for supper on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Tools make him happy so that's what he got for his birthday. Plus, I made the cake from scratch. That never happens when Mrs. Crocker lives so conveniently in my cupboard. But it turned out really nice and fudgy. Mmmm. chocolate.

We spent some time outside this weekend enjoying the nice weather. Cowboy put my plates on the new vehicle. I gave in and got rid of the trusty old Buick. Now I won't have to confuse my car with the 17 other brown Buicks that old ladies in town drive!

The massive snow pile in the yard was great to play 'king of the mountain' on; Paige stood on the top and yelled and threw snow having a wonderful time. Dad checked the top out so we know she wouldn't fall in a hidden hole that was 10 feet deep!

This is Paige with her new short 'do. It got chopped off last week and she loves it, as does Mom. Dad and Gramma are coming to terms with it! I got a phone call at work with a little voice saying, "Can I get my hair cut?" Then Kim got on the line and said she could pretend to cut it or trim it since it was hair cut day at daycare (bless those of use who get a beautician's help with our child's hair--its awesome). I told her to do whatever. We got a cute little bob.

The Big 5-0

So my Mom turned 50 yesterday. I calmed my desires to embarrass/surprise her and behaved pretty well. She was greeted with plenty of decorations at the bank. . .I will claim a small part in that with a lot of appreciated help by her co-workers. Thanks Amanda!

But in a small town you can put signs on Main Street--did you know that? Some people even get up at 5:30 am to make sure they are in place! Kudos to my family.
Mom got them as a momento.

After work Paige and I went over to see her and opened up presents. Mom loves orange and is trying to accent her kitchen with it. So I got her some Rachel Ray moppines. Very cool.

Paige helped her open up her big present from Dad.
What could it be. . .more Rachel Ray stuff. Orange cookware!
Mom loved her orange cookware, and she really needed some new pots and pans. She can shriek with joy like I did when she doesn't have to soak a pan for an hour to get it clean. My aunts and gramma came out for cake and we had our pick of angel food, pumpkin bars, or red velvet. Nice. Hope you had a great day Mom and we love you!
