Cowboys, horses, and cows--oh my!

So our last week or so has been pretty busy. We were fortunate that some college friends of ours ventured out west from Fargo to see us for the holiday weekend. They were sports and agreed to attend a large cattle branding that my Cowboy was helping work at on Saturday. Both friends are from an ag background so they aren't the true city slickers like you may be thinking. I have only attended a handful of brandings myself, but it is a sight to see how 'western' they are! Cowboy got to ride his horse and attempt to rope some cattle--he had the honor of being one of two people whose horse reared up on them. It was very dramatic. However, it was a sucess with no major injuries to anyone and the weather was cooperative, except for the wind. I pretended I was with the paparazzi and took a million pictures since I am trying to figure out my camera settings. I know what the aperture is now :)

Poor little guy--doesn't know what's coming!

My tough Cowboy wrestling those calves.

Kissing cowboys over the fence. I sense trouble in the later years.

Paige and her daddy riding Matt. She was in seventh heaven with all the cows and horses. I fear she may turn out to be a cowgirl. Sigh.

The 'city slickers'--not really, but it sounds good! Note which side of the corral we were all on. We were smart and stayed out of harms way. Thanks for coming to see us!

Paige-isms

"(insert name) is my best friend EVER!" The names in this sentence have varied almost every day. Some of the people mentioned have been relatives, friends, or even strangers. The dog has even made it, so has the horse. I just think its funny that she has to say the 'ever' after it with such drama.

"What are you going to bring me?" She asked me when I told her that Daddy was going to take her to Kim's this morning because Mommy had to go to a meeting out of town. Apparently leaving town is just cause to buy a present. I am sensing someone is spoiled!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day, Mom. This is my favorite
picture of you and Paige. I remember you and Dad that day
and how excited you both were.
I knew you'd be fabulous grandparents since
you are such great parents.

I hope someday Paige tells me that she
thinks I am a good Mom.

I will tell her I learned from the best,
because I did.

I love you.

Paige-isms

"I'm magical!" Told to us at any random time. One of the first times was when we were grocery shopping. No reason, she is just magical.

Crouched down in front of the dog--"Can you talk to me. . . .can you bark at me please?"

"That's sooo beauuuutiful!" Told to us also at any random time.

"I didn't puke today!" when picked up from daycare. She doesn't normally have this problem, but it was worth mentioning to me I guess.

"What?" as I clearly tell her something and she looks right back at me. I repeat the phrase. "What?" is what I hear again. She point blank listens to you but if its not something she wants to hear, she just says that and ignores me. Can't wait for the teenage years.

I want my Mom

So I have been battling the 'ick' for several days and it finally got me down. I am prone to sinus infections and can't just get a cold without it attacking my sinuses. So I gave in and went to the clinic yesterday and got my prescription (which they asked me to wait a day or two to fill--in case I could get over it on my own.) So needless to say I felt like crap today and stayed home from work. Why by the way, do I feel guilty about that? I am not a frequent abuser of days off. Paige went to Kim's and I slept until noon. Now this afternoon, I finally feel human again. I got some drugs and hopefully will be on the mend.
Also, thank you Mom for calling and checking on me. No matter how old I am or how much I whine, I do like it when you check on me when I am sick. For all you others out there; I hope you have a Mom like mine to be around when you are sick. She's the best. Lots of sympathy and if she's in the same house--you'll get the royal treatment. My hubby said she ruined me by doing that--needless to say, he's not as sympathetic as Mom is. He doesn't like to listen to me whine and won't fetch things for me--he's never been cared for by Shelly, otherwise he'd probably be more like her!

All alone. . . sort of.

I think I am officially all by myself for the next 24 hours (or until I go pickup Paige.) So many things I could do. I could clean (ick), conquer some projects I have been waiting to work on, play with some new pictures, or shamelessly sit in front of the TV and do nothing. Hmmmm. . . I figured if I posted my challenge to do something, I might feel obligated to do something productive. We'll see if it works. I do know there will be one nap involved so I can keep this cold I have from progressing!

So, the Cowboy showed up at 8pm and isn't leaving until the morning. Yay! I'm not by myself anymore. Those who know me have seen what I get like after I am by myself for a few hours. Think of a dog just anxiously staring at the door. But, alas, the poor overworked Cowboy was concious a whole 1. 5 hours before he fell asleep. On the plus side, my Peanut did call me to talk to me before she went to bed. Gramma, you can't steal her anymore, I don't know what to do when she's not here. The quiet is eery :)
