July 4th Weekend

We had a fun filled weekend, with my (gulp) 10 year class reunion that began on Friday. We had 29 out of 46 graduates attend, so that was pretty good. I got to see quite a few people I haven't seen in years and we had a nice time. On Saturday, my classmates and I gathered on the typical small town float--a flat bed with some balloons to be pulled down main street. The pickup even got backed into and majorly dented up while we were in route.

After the parade, we went to the Conner family annual BBQ. The small ones played in the sprinkler, and enjoyed the bouncy toys.

The afternoon led to a 2.5 hour nap for Paige and I! Having fun is tiring. We headed to the park to watch fireworks over the lake. It was a beautiful day and the evening was perfect for watching the fireworks.

Overheard on Vacation

"It's sooo beauutiful"--Peanut said after we pointed out the Mall of America.

"Mom, why are you talking to the robot?"--after P. saw me talking to the drive up speaker at Dunn Brothers and McDonalds. Kudos to us that we don't frequent drive through restaurants--oh wait--that's because I live in a small town :)

"Mom, why are we going to uncle Donald's house?"--after P. heard me and Gramma saying we were getting breakfast at McDonalds. Apparently he's in the family now.

"AIRPLANE!"--about 17 thousand times whenever we saw an airplane flying over head during the last 8 days and 1,400 miles. There are a lot of airplanes that leave Minneapolis/St. Paul. A lot.

We arrived home a few hours ago from our vacation. Home and Daddy/Cowboy never looked so good. Its fun to be gone, but very nice to be home. More blogs and pictures to follow soon. I need to screen the 300+ pictures.

i.am.obsessed

I am an obsessive reader. Those who knew me in the Harry Potter days will confirm this. I discovered that series in college; after it had been out for about 4 books. I decided they were more fun to read than accounting textbooks. I was obsessed and pre-ordered the new books so they would arrive on my doorstep (since I was far away from Barnes and Noble) and read late into the night so I could finish the new book as fast as I could. Because I HAD to know what was going to happen.

Harry Potter ended, life goes on. Then I discovered the Twilight series. I had tried to read it once before and couldn't get into it. I liked the movie and tried again last week. I have been obsessed--ignoring my child and my husband so I can read about vampires. Wow, that's sad. I don't know why I like to read about this really eccentric world--probably because its the opposite of banking :) However, I have finished the last book tonight so life can go on because I now know how Bella and Edward end up. Those who have read it understand. Those of you who haven't--run to the bookstore and start. You'll be addicted like I was. You'll want to run away with a vampire. But thankfully I finished the books before vacation begins on Saturday; otherwise I would have to had to make Mom drive and ignore her and Paige for 6 hours so I could finish!

Relay for Life

Friday night was the Bowman County Relay for Life--the 3rd annual. This event is very important to our family since my Mom is now a cancer survivor as well as my father-in-law. Both of them participate each year. We have numerous other friends and relatives who have been affected as well; and it is a great way to honor them. More pictures are located here: http://paigemorgan.shutterfly.com/904.

Coming soon . . .vacation!!

I am officially counting down that I have only 7 work days left until I am gone for over a week. Yay!! Girl road trip with Mom and Paige=shopping, zoos, lots of snacks, and fun. I am very excited. The only bad thing is that there will be no Dad or Cowboy with us and we won't see them on Father's Day. We will be celebrating with them the following weekend when we are home. Oh, and we are actually going farther than Bismarck this year. We are heading to Minneapolis to see my aunt and uncle--they are going to be fabulous hosts.

Country Life

My Cowboy. . .looking very much the part.

Bulls, like other males, do not do what they are supposed to.

Herefords and green acres (too bad they aren't mine.)

I found myself taking lots of pictures of cows, bulls, and cowboys this last month. Apparently, that is what I surround myself with. I do have to admit that I have been fortunate to see some very pretty spots in our SW corner of the state recently; and fresh green grass with calves running around is a very pretty picture.

Word of the week

So. . . I have a 3 year old without any patience. Hence our word of the day she learned lately. I decided to explain it to her with situations. Such as, Mom's on the phone so you will have to wait one minute and then I'll help you. Mom is washing dishes, let me get my hands dry and then I will help you. Sometimes 30 seconds is a long time to wait for someone. Also, at daycare there is a new baby; and there hasn't been a baby there in quite a while. They aren't used to having to wait for the baby to be situated before Kim can help them right this second like they want.

We've had a few instances at home and daycare where it's been a success to remind Paige of what patience is. A few where it hasn't. Such as Paige wailing, "But I don't have any patience!" to Kim when she told her just a second. It's hard being three.
